Something to savor on a Friday
First the New York Times, and now NPR's Daniel Schorr.
During the run-up to the invasion of Iraq, President Bush said that "a liberated Iraq can show the power of freedom to transform that vital region."He may have had it right.
Does it get any sweeter than this?

Daniel Schorr has always had an open mind. He is skeptical of everyone and is willing to entertain any notion. If you have an example of his playing favorites, I would like to see it.
Of course, as Thomas Friedman wrote earlier in this week, however encouraging some events are, tipping points have a way of tipping back. Lebanon has a population that is divided as the population in Iraq. The cedar revolution that Bush hails is embracing the cedar symbol which is the symbol of the Lebanese christians. The christians, however, are in the minority. The majority are calling the uprising an "Intifada." Nonetheless, the slain former Prime Minister was able to bring the two sides together more or less during his eight years as prime minister, so there is hope.

Actually, there are many more sides in Lebanon, but those are two.
