Now that the boss is out

The REAL party can begin.

let's start with Comedy Central.

Suffice to say, cynical though I may have grown on the issue of self-censorship where the image of Mohammed is concerned, I was honestly surprised to see it get this close to home. On a channel that has no ability to pretend that this is about not offending anyone.

Of course, Trey Parker and Matt Stone made that ingeniously clear.

My tribute to them:

Comments

Parker & Stone are censored by Comedy Central (CC) network, while Dave Chappelle calls having to "compromise" with white executives at CC "racist" before walking away from his $50 million contract.

Interesting how much some folks will put up with and how little others will.

Then again, you don't see outlets in Muslim nations self-censoring anti-Christian and anti-Jewish screeds and lampoons, of course you don't see rampaging mobs of outraged Christians and Jews venting their anger over Muslim bigotry either, or threatening the lives of those who purvey those things.

Perhaps more's the pity that we don't.

Still don't understand how anti-Muslim bigotry is an appropriate response to Muslim bigotry, or how deliberately egging on homocideal maniacs is a responsible act.

Let me suggest a synonym for self-censorship: civility.

And I don't understand how the above graphic is anti-Muslim.

It's called satire :p

"Satire is a sort of glass, wherein beholders do generally discover everybody's face but their own"

-Jonathan Swift

Well, Bob, IF cartoons and comic depictions of Mohammed are examples of "anti-Muslim bigotry," then you must also agree that "artistic offerings" like Jose Sorrano's "Piss Christ" and Chris Ofili's painting of the Blessed Virgin decorated with elephant dung are, using that same definition, examples of anti-Christian bigotry, simply because they offend and enrage many Christians.

Yet, our media seems to have no problem at all with exhibits that apparently you yourself would call examples of "anti-Christian bigotry," so their decision to eschew similar lampoons of Islam appears to be both arbitrary and capricious, if not hypocritical and cowardly.

We NEED a single standard on this matter.

Anything less is a tacit acceptance of dhimmitude.
