It's all about me
Soobee tagged me, so here are 8 more or less random facts about myself, in no particular order.
- I'm much more liberal than most people (myself included) think, particularly on social issues. I tilt conservative because I focus more on economic issues and because I have a healthy contrarian streak (I live in a very blue state.)
- I've always wanted one of those big-ass checks. You know, the ones that are about five feet long, that lottery winners and so forth are photographed with. Shy of that, I'd like a normal-sized check for a very large amount.
- If I have an irrational fear, it would be drains at the bottom of swimming pools.
- I'm a certified gun nut, albeit a peaceful one. I have never once discharged a firearm at another living creature. Nevertheless, I'm probably more intransigent on this issue than any other. Cold, dead fingers, etc.
- Kathleen Turner was once seriously checkin' me out at a gourmet grocery store on the Upper West Side. No, it was not my imagination. Of course I was a few years younger and a few pounds lighter back then. Plus, I think she was drunk.
- Some scenes in certain movies will still make me weepy no matter how many times I've seen them. At the top of my all time list is this: "Jean Louise Finch? Meet Arthur Radley. I believe he already knows you." (*sniff*)
- I think I was much more creative when I was a teenager. I wrote prolifically, played music, and created cool, stop-motion animated films using my parents' antique Bell & Howell Standard 8mm movie camera. Now, in the Age of the Internet, I have tools and means of distribution that I never could have dreamed of back then, but I have have little spare time, alas.
- I love old comics, books, roots music, dogs and beer, although not necessarily in that order.
That's all I can think of for now. In turn, I'm tagging these six other people, although anyone can play who likes. Participation is optional, of course.

Because deep down you know you want to end poverty and injustice, even if it costs you something.
We can tell.

1) I am also a social liberal: I want everyone to be healthy, wealthy and wise. I just don't think government entitlment programs have a good record of achieving that.
2) My favorite song is Bobby Darin's performance of "Somewhere Beyond the Sea."
3) I get drunk on the first drink, so I choose carefully.
4) I like George W. Bush and I think he is doing a pretty good job, but I have also believed from the beginning that Iraq was a mistake.
5) I believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that God created the universe, probably sometime between 15 and 30 billion years ago and got the whole thing exactly right on his first try. I also believe that God created Charles Darwin and Werner Heisenberg, and got them pretty much right as well, but really hit his stride with Merle Oberon.
6) I am obsessed with, and scared shitless of spiders.
7) I am irresistable to beautiful women, probably because they think I am unobtainable...or they think I can't get it up anymore, so I must be harmless...or something.
8) I used to like to disguise myself as Kathleen Turner and then wonder around the Upper West Side punking young southern boys into believing I was interested in them.

You, contrarian? No!
By the way? Number 1 is more of an open secret than not, but since I have stubborn on mine, who am I to quibble?

If I meme for you, I have to meme for everyone.
And you can't be contrarian and fill out memes (the appropriate answer to that remark, on your part, would be, "Yes I can.")
I don't do memes anymore. Never liked 'em. Nothing personal.
