OK, OK, I confess that I am, in fact, withoutfeathers and that is my new, not-quite-ready-for-primetime blog. I wasn't planning on unveiling my new blog like this, but Barry forced my hand with this question. ;-)
That was a well written blog post, Without Feathers. I do believe that Republicans have reason to have the thing with feathers in regards to Fred Thompson.
I can't help but believe this is more a manifestation of a general conservative dissatisfaction with the current field of candidates than about enthusiasm for Thompson himself. Still....
The fact that Fred Thompson is even considered simply reflects the implosion of the republican party and the desperation of its supporters. The republican party self-destructed. Hopefully it will continue its current course and will eventually completely disintegrate and eclipse from American politics. For the last 2-3 decades its has been terrible for the country.
Yes, I think a lot of Republicans have been looking at Rudy and Mitt and thinking: "Why can't they be more like that DA guy on Law and Order?"
And suddenly, there's that DA guy from Law and Order thinking publicly thinking about running.
IMHO, presidential politics is 80% perception. People want to vote for a "presidential" candidate. No Republican candidate since Ronald Reagan has looked more like a president than Thompson. I just think that there's also some there there.
I would love to see a matchup between Thompson and Obama in '08. I think they would both go out of there way to create the aura of an epic campaign -- Thunder from the right, lightening from the left!
"To be fair, Thompson has as much experience as Edwards or Obama.. so I see no reason why his being involved in the race shows desperation."
Thompson is not a serious candidate. Edwards and Obama are. In my opinion Thompson is some sort of a joke. A mediocre to bad actor. Sorry but I can not take that guy seriously (unless I compare him of course to the current leader of the republicans, GWB).

I totally agree, and was waiting for someone else to say so before joing the "WTF?" boomlet.

Well, add him to the list of Republicans I would rather have as President than Guilliani.

Probably the best explanation of this phenomenon that I've see to date is here: What Did Fred Know and When Did He Know it.

Excellent! Right into my "favorite bloggers" section. At the very least, it's already my favorite blog named after a Woody Allen book.

I think it's definitely the "wait, the front runners are who?" reaction that's behind a lot of the enthusiasm.

Blue Wind: Did you think Thompson wasn't "serious" when he uncovered the crucial evidence connecting the Nixon White House to the Watergate break-in?
