Heh

You gotta love it when Democrats tear themselves up over identity politics. Sounds like more than a few women are pissed off at Oprah for her support of Obama (BT, you predicted this!) One commenter to Oprah's site...

...cannot believe that women all over this country are not up in arms over Oprah’s backing of Obama. For the first time in history we actually have a shot at putting a woman in the White House and Oprah backs the black MAN. She’s choosing her race over her gender.

I guess that's bad, right? Choosing race over gender? As a libertarian-leaning Republican, I guess I can't really be expected to grasp the subtler nuances of identity politics. Is one arbitrary classification automatically superior to another? People don't choose to be born female any more than they choose being born black. Should either be a significant factor in choosing the president of the United States? If so, why?

Once you've started down this ridiculous road, you'll eventually end up in a place with absurd and meaningless conflicts like this one. And they're not all going to be against Republicans. The Republican side of the race may be wide open and inchoate, but the bad blood seems to be on the Democratic side this time around. Let them beat each other over the head with the race and gender clubs for a change. Enjoy the show, folks. I know I will.

Barry,
I am amazed by you. I think your perception of reality is biased big time (and no, I dont claim that mine is not biased). You claim that the bad blood is in the democratic site. Well, take a look at Redstate or many other big republican blogs. You would notice that they talk and attack Huckabee as if he were Fidel Castro, Lenin, or even a reincarnated version of Karl Marx. They call Ron Paul a traitor and, essentially, anti-American. And you only see bad blood in the democratic site for the silly support of Oprah? Amazing.

Lets not forget that Huckabee and Paul represent 30-40% of the republican base. And they are treated like THE enemy by the rest of republicans.

Actually, BW, it's YOU who doesn't understand reality....or read that well.

Oprah hasn't made many more campaign stops for Obama since Iowa, almost certainly in response to her website being inundated with negative emails from disgruntled women. THAT'S "identity politics," not merely some "bad blood."

That's corrosive in ways that legitimate disgreements over policies and where a Party should be headed is not.

I like Romney, I don't much like Rudy, or Huckabee and I haven't liked McCain's (now changed) previous stance on ILLEGAL immigration and his inanely opposing the Bush tax cuts, BUT I would support ANY of those guys OVER any one of the Keynesians the Democrats are running right now.

Of the three major Democrats, Hillary Clinton, is by far the most reasonable, and that says it all, about how unreasonable and unrealistic the rest of the field is, doesn't it? She seems to at least largely get the idea that we are in a fight to the death with "the Cult of Sharia," and she seems to understand, as her husband did, that Supply Side policies work and Keynesian ones don't.

Of course, she pales in comparison to almost anyone on the other side, to any Conservative.
